Happy Thursday, Friends!!
May this month have you feeling especially loved and happy! Whether you’ve given birth to a child or have children in your heart that you get to share that motherly love with embrace it. I claimed this year as my second Mother’s Day as my husband was so kind as to celebrate with me while Neil was growing in my womb.
My husband and I share a calendar on our phones which is so helpful with appointments, work schedule changes, and life in general. Highly recommend - if you don’t already share with your spouse. You'll make life just that tad bit easier for yourself and your family. In saying that, on Mother’s Day, I inserted a text requesting Rob to plan something. My husband is extremely good at surprises but he also is very considerate in regards to doing what I want to do. In my asking, now he knows he’s got free rein in planning whatever and I really have no input to give as long as I don’t have to plan it. Decision fatigue can be real… speak up on either side of the relationship and let your partner know your needs. One partner can be more opinioned or have stronger feelings towards ideas but sometimes the opinionated one doesn’t want to be opinionated in that moment or on that particular topic, haha… communication is key and try to find the one that works for you! It may not be the first thing you try. Some couples prefer even a whiteboard on the fridge or next to the door as you’re heading out for the day or getting home at night within a quick glance you can see what to anticipate.
My husband planned a pleasant surprise with a picnic in the our local state park with Neil which was our first time as a family of three. The expression on Neil's face shows how he truly felt about the idea! Our menu consisted of meats and cheese, spinach dip, wraps, sushi, and sparkling wine to top of the meal. The effort and forethought was well appreciated. To top it off, I was spoiled with some cards that brought tears to my eyes and thoughtful gifts. The trails were easy to hit up after lunch and what a nice hot sunny day it was to enjoy the outdoors. With a stop at Lowes afterward, our day was wrapped up as I brought home some additional plants and pots for our back patio.
Neil is officially 8 months old - 6.5 months preemie adjusted. He is sitting up unassisted like a little pro and just jabbering away as he sure has a lot to talk about. His personality is developing more each day and I swear that boy couldn't have stolen my heart more. His little hugs when he wraps his arms around my neck or reaches up and holds my face to look at me ... those moments melt me!!
Recently, I have tried to implement a dinner menu with creating one each Sunday for the week. I have found it has been so helpful in the evenings. The last couple of weeks I have not taken the time and by the end of each week I realized I truly missed having that go to menu. It all comes down to one less thing to have to think about. I work three days a week so on those particular days I am usually getting home later then standard normal dinner time. I tend to schedule leftovers, sandwiches, or carry out on those nights.
For this month, I have a different book genre to suggest for all my fellow reader friends. Since we are in an growing session, this book hasn't left my coffee table. My mom surprised me with this lovely book and the ideas have been amazing! Some of the ideas I have found are practical ideas that I could incorporate into my own flower beds or gardens and some I simply am left drooling and wishing...
Speaking of landscaping, I happened to have been introduced to a company called David Austin. I absolutely love unique beautiful roses and these particular roses originated in UK and various European country. This company has beautifully opened my eyes to a world of roses. Who knew roses could almost but not quite show some similarity to my untrained eye of a peony. These flowers are open, have layers and some edges even are scalloped! After seeing their website and upon receiving their handbook of roses, I had to incorporate their roses into my flower beds. A big shout out to my brother in law and his family in Maryland who surprised me with some healthy root starts! In the future, I will be sharing pictures of my blooms! One of the roots I planted is a climber rose and we have quite a vacant spot on either side of house. With the addition of a couple of trellises I bought at Lowes, the roots are helping transform our home one step at a time. I included on one of the trellises a beautiful white and purple clematis. We love to do home projects, landscaping, etc… together!! Hiring a company is tempting timewise but we enjoy the process so much and knowing we accomplished this together! I’ll probably never pick up that phone to call a service that we can tackle within reason, until we are feeble!! Keep those things you and your spouse like to do together tucked close!
On Saturday, May 4th, I had invited my Mom for a girls evening to attend a concert to see Little Big Town, Chris Stapleton, and George Strait perform. We had a blast as that was our part of Mother's Day celebrating together!! I have always wanted to see the King of Country perform and Chris was an excellent addition as well as Little Big Town. The Saturday night was long but was well worth it to have that quality time together.
As Memorial Weekend is upon us, have a wonderful time celebrating! One of my goals for the month of June is to publish my blog sooner. I'll be sharing more gardening, family pics, and summer fun!!
Until next time, soak up the sun, dip your toes into some water, and get some dirt on your hands...
XOXO,
Bethany
